Hazelton’s Second Annual
Pioneer Day was another
success as the community
, ;celebrated and marked

organized this year’s event,

The weather, as usual,
un-
cooperative. At parade time
a slight drizzle fell but by
barbecue time the sun had
peeped through the clouds
and the rain had vanished.

* most of the pies that were on
-display for the barbecue

explaining that one woman,
alone, had baked 50 pies for
the occasion.

She said she did not really
want to hold the parade and
spoke oul against the idea
when it was first raised. But
the community was set on
having the parade and Mrs.
Sargeant was put in charge
of organizing it.

Featured in the parade
was a very rustic looking
float from the Hudsons Bay
Company, which won first
prize. Wrinch Memorial
Hospital’s float punned on
the “sawbones” theme with
a doctor and several nurses
attending to a rather rustic
looking patient with a
handsaw.

The Inlander float was of

ariverboat, a familiar sight
in the hotel lobby which
