Bereey INFO-PARENTS Fs PROMOTIONAL ACTIVITIES Following last year implementation of four new programs the development of teaching French as a first language continues, with the opening of a class of Programme Cadre de frangais (PCDF) in Saanich. So far, the 1994-95 school year is looking really good for the Association des parents francophones de la Colombie- Britannique. A tour, in most school districts offering the Programme cadre, is presently being planned for November. A first, this tour should give an opportunity to meet and inform the Parents Committees on the Association’s school year agenda. Pertinent information on both grade school and preschool activities will be available. Also in November, the National Film Board will present its new production “Mon amour, My love”. This documentary, deals with the daily challenges facing couple whose mother tongue differ. As part of the promotional campaign scheduled for next Spring, a bilingual play «Sitting on the fence» will be presented. Michelle Cook, Artistic Director of théatre La Seiziéme, wrote the script and will direct the play. This play is only one part of acampaign promoting the Programme cadre de francais to the communities. This campaign is mostly aimed at mixed language couples, who make up 70 per cent of parents eligible to education in French as first language for their children. PROMOTIONAL ACTIVITIES In order to increase the PCDF visibility, a publicity campaign will also be launched in Spring. It will mainly consist of daily newspaper ads, posters and information kits. CULTURAL PRESENCE The parents committees should be kept busy in 1995. Each commitee could receive up to $1,200 to organize, at their - Parents discretion, one or more socio-cultural activities. The main purpose is to bring together the francophone community in their respective districts, using the school as a rallying point. APFCB will also be involved in two other major cultural events. From March 13 to 19, 1995, there will be the Semaine nationale de la Francophonie and from May 5 to 7, the first Festival Théatre- Jeunesse will take place at Gibsons on the Sunshine Coast. LATEST ACCOMPLISHMENTS As always, parents can count on the 8 Committee activity to ¢ Association to provide a framework to help them fulfill their planning and also, give them the proper training in order to achieve their goals. The training sessions will be held on a regular basis but on request. Another very important aspect of the Association, is the implementation of the preschool sector. A new material resource centre has recently opened its doors. i i ary- elebrate their 10™ anniversary French books, games, puppets, videos and tapes are available to your young children. Preschool educators have not been forgotten; two of them have just completed a two weeks advanced training in Saint-Pierre et Miquelon. Torecap, all those activities as well as the various other actions the Association des parents francophones de Colombie- Britannique has undertaken, have only one purpose: to obtain the best possible quality in education the students of Programme cadre de francais deserve. yy,
