Wednesday _ by Fae Mooney. ~ What’s in your closet? One rainy afternoon this summer — we're bound to have at least one of those — ~~ take a look. What you find may reveal something of-your - wardrobe personality. - - Which are your favorite clothes? What is the predomi- nant color in your wardrobe? What is your favorite skirt length? Which clothes do you ‘wear most often and feel good in? And which ones do you seldom — if ever — wear (your fashion skeletons)? . a If you were to empty your closet and sort its contents on your bed, you could come up . with possibly eight piles. These piles represent.seven wardrobe personalities, Your eighth pile, the fashion skeletons, you can — either. hide again in-your closet or give them to someone you know with wardrobe personali- ty #7. Se Let’s look at the seven possi- ‘ble categories and determine which wardrobe personality is — yours ~}) Casual — In the casual - ¢loset, look for clothes that are made of easy care fabrics, practical, and comfortable to wear. They will be tailored and ' gonservative, sporty, with . A-line silhouettes — dressed-_ _ down, no-frills styling. The skirt style of choice is probably - ‘A-line (straight skirts are too - confining; full skirts, too cum- -bersome). Jackets — blazer. _ style, casual. - Colors in the casual closet by choice will be basics, neutrals of beige and brown. Fabric patterns will be subtle. Clothes ~ will-be smooth textured. Acces- sories — few, and practical. ‘The personality revealed is. ‘natural, easygoing, dependable, practical, energetic. When it comes to fashion, not too _- adventurous. Comfort is what counts. Someone you might + orelate to is Sally Field. -: 2) Feminine — A romantic * look is what we find inthis closet. Dresses. Skirts rather than slacks (you probably don’t “even own a pair of jeans — if “50, they may be among the _~ skeletons). Skirts will be soft . and full and draping — no “mini lengths here. Chiffon ‘~" plouses and angora sweaters. © Clothes have a conservative ” Yietorian look in a flowing, ~ body-skimming style. Nothing - ¢tisp or stiff. Everything soft © and lacy. Probably no jackets :-— but perhaps an antique silk - shawl, More sashes than belts. Your color choices are. - pastel, especially pink, and - . delicate white. Nothing black, ~~ fothing heavy. Fabric patterns gre soft and unobtrusive, Tex-.. tutes and fabrics, soft and ©... dfaping. Accessory choices — | Like-Jane'Seymour. = 3) Elegant — A touch of class is what to look for in the elegant woman’s closet. Quality is what you see here, and the closet itself will.be orderly and . well organized, — Well-fitted, chic, functional ‘clothes of quality hang neatly in their designated areas of the ‘closet. No lurking skeletons. — Only a look of understated © fashion elegance. Straight line styling is evident. Tailored — jackets and dresses, skirts of solid gabardine. = Colors are subtle, neutrals of taupe, brown, grey. But what predominates is rich black and _ elegant cream. No vivid colors clutter your closet, or patterned outfits — solid colors are your choice, as are smooth, soft tex- _ tures and natural, lightweight ‘fabrics — no blends. Ac- cessories, of course, are of quality and tasteful. Nothing bold or loud. Understatement _ is your fashion statement. The personality this closet reveals is one of discipline and control. You are consistent, confident, capable, and calm. You project an-image of grace and refinemeiit You are also a smart shopper, Candice Bergen might appreciate your classic fashion sense. 4) Dramatic — The dramatic dresser’s closet is filled with _ one-of-a-kind items, original and unique pieces. There is a _ lack of uniformity here. Clothes of unusual colors, fabrics, and textures line this closet. Exact fit is important. Stylized lines are evident. Long straight skirts and oversized jackets. Bold dramatic pat—_. terns. Clothes of a variety of textures are worn in unusual, unique — even extreme — combinations. You adapt ideas atid trends to produce a look of drama. Any color that is strong, rich, and deep will be found in _ this closet, And especially dramatic black. Accessories — anything unique and different, . worn in any combination. The dramatic dresser will mix, but not necessarily match, anything with anything to produce an. exotic look. . A personality that is sophisticated, independent, and innovative is what the dramatic wardrobe reveals. A style-con- scious woman who possesses a special fashion flair for drama and the exotic, you ate far ahead'in the fashion game. : _ nonconformist. You project an aura of drama - that is uniquely your own — and may even impress Cher. 5) Femine Fatale — Close to the drama of a Cher is the allute of. the femmie fatale. .* Anything. clingy, body hug- ~ ging, or fluid is what hhands*— ‘or drapes — in your closet.’ - "Here we find short straight . |. skirts, clingy sweaters, and: anything. that hugs or flatters: oo the silhouette. 0. ef small, delicate — fragile an- ~~ - . tiques, silk flowers,:and the _ traditional pearls and lace... . |’. ‘The pearls and lace wardrobe reveals a romantic, shy woman, .. Everything about you suggests .. softness, gentleness, feminity.’ ~ Your look is natural, delicate. - The number one. color in this closet is red. Any vibrant color, any eye-catching pattern, . anything boldand flashy, anything: tantalizing and reveal- ing will likely be found. —~ Here is a body conscious | woman, confident of her --womanliness. ‘You are wivacious,.glamorous, full of ~ life, earthy. You portray an im- age of super-confidence and generally prefer the company _ of men to that of women. Someone like Joan Collins or’ - Dolly Parton understands this — preference, You. like to play with clothes, . but sometimes your knock-em- dead approach to fashion can overshadow your own per- ~_ sonality, What gets the atten- tion is what you are ‘wearing — not you, == 6) Nonconformist — It may not be the closet that is.in- teresting — but instead, the old trunk at the foot of the bed that holds the treasures of the ‘Here, anything goes. The clothes are individual and in- teresting; the combinations can - be outrageous. You'll find pat- terns and textures in daring mixtures and in great variety. . Here fashion standards are not contemporary and the clothes are not necessarily expensive. But they are unique. Few, if any, pastels show up. Or medium colors. Mostly dark shades and off-beat color com- binations. Natural fabrics are a preference. Clothes are an in- teresting mix of fabrics and textures — always in singular combinations. Accessories are unusual, imaginative, and unique. . Labels do not impress the nonconformist. Private, un-. competitive, you are your own woman. You create a look that is individually yours. With a gift for “seeing” a fashion look before it is even put together, you may produce a “new outfit right now from the jumble on your bed. For the nonconformist, any place can reveal a fashion find. ‘Look what Madonna is wearing now... 7) The Whatever wardrobe is -filled with whatever feels com- fortable, whatever was handed down to you, whatever you feel _ good in, whatever Mantique had on sale for 70 percent off in your size, whatever you found and couldn’t resist, whatever strikes. your fancy, whatever you picked up cheap, - whatever somehow took up ‘ residence among the skeletons. ‘If you fall into the ‘‘what- ever’? wardrobe category, each - pile on your bed will be about - the same size. You are a. fashion chameleon. ' have one, two, or maybe three - voluminous‘than the others. .. . Are most of your clothes in | ‘the casual pile?
