SUBJECT: Maintenance School Socce- Fields are aware, the amount of money we spend on maintenance of school fields is far in excess of the amount we receive from the School Board fo'he fields- The standard of maintenance is higher than that of the SchoolCity's Board. We are in a "catch 22" situation in that we need of the school fields for field sports. Presently wetheare'useonly just maintaining the fields to a minimum acceptable level for play by our community groups. Many reouests are received from our community groups to upgrade the school fields but we are hesitant to do much due to the fact that the Board is not prepared to give us more money. It would only be to cur benefit to the fields if we had total scheduling rignts over the improve field . something we should work towards in the future. Dear Mr. Smith: The Port Coquitlam Parks & Recreation Department 's most senior interested in taking over the maintenance of the largeccncerns field at George Pearkes Secondary . One of our major the field is that the football team has all their practices on field. and naturally this is very hard on the middle of the We have an agreement with the coach at Mary Hill Junior Secondary that the majority of their practic'es take place on the all-weather field, adjacent to the field. This cooperation has been most appreciated and the field does not get eaten up in the middle. George pearkes has an all-weather field and they too could do this if we could oet the co-operation of the coaches. Attached is a suggested aareement between S.D.043 and Port Coquitlam for all the school fields that we mainta'n. The agreeLRent is similar to the one which the School Board has with Corno Lake Junior Secondary. However, There are some minor changes whic'h have been suggested; in particular, the closure of fields. It is felt that, when we close our city owr ed fields o1. weekends, the school fields should also be closed. On weekends we have a system whereby the fields are checked each day and a message is recorded on a telephone answerino system as to whether the fields are open or closed. The soccer people have been informed that they must phone the number ir! orcer to find out if the fielos are closec or epen. feasible for u to contact the principal in It woulc no'e this particular case.
