THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PERT COQUITLAM MEMORANDUM DEC 18 1978 TO: Mayor aud Council DATE: December 15th, 1978 ° FROM: Building and Protection Committee Report from the Building and Protection Committee Meeting IN ATTENDANCE: Alderman M. Wright, Chairman Alderman G.R. Laking, Deputy Chairman Alderman J.J. Keryluk, (Part time) Mr. L.D. Pollock, -City Administrator W.S. Wingrove, Fire Chief J.N. Boileau, Deputy Fire Chief RE: Proposed Purchase of 85-foot Aerial Platform Alderman Wright was brought up to date on all information pertaining to the background of the Fire Department equipment and needs for the near future. To summarize, after our meetings with Mr.Piper, of the Underwriter's Technical Survey Department, we found our pumping capacity was low on three pumpers and adequate on only one. Also that a vehicle over 20 years old would receive little or no credit. Our present pumpers are: #4 Pumper 1976 with 1050 G.P.M. Pump #3 Pumper 1967 with 625 G.P.M. Pump #2 Pumper 1958 with 500 G.P.M. Pump #1 Pumper 1949 with 500 G.P.M. Pump Our #4 and #3 pumpers are fine for age but #2 should be a larger pump. As you will recall I recommend to Council at budget time it would be necessary to order a new aerial as our old aerial was put out of service by the Compensation Board. Also.we would need a new pumper with a 1050 G.P.M. pump to bring our pumping capacity up to requirements. Council feit at that time only the aerial would be considered and was placed before the Finance Committee for funding. . At this time it was decided a 1050 G.P.M. pump, a water tank, hose bed and hand ladders would go on the aerial and this vehicle could and would be used as a first response pumper as well as an aerial, meaning we have incorporated the two vehicles into one. This is not am uncommon practice used in smaller departments when on-duty fire fighters are at a minimum continued on Page 2 .esceess
