The principles end policies were all directed towards achieving the goals Maintaining a healthy environment} Conserving our land resource; Serving a changing population; Maintaining the regions economic health and} Managing our region with a new approach; After an extensive process of public participation che G.V.R.D. Board of Directors on July 30, 1983, received che "The Livable Region Strategy : Proposals” which summarizes choices made throughout the review process. The “Livable Region Strategy: Proposais", waa referred by the G.V.R.D. to the Municipality, community interest groups, other Mainland local governments, the Province and other organizations for comments by March 31, 1994. The Board also refer for comments the Transportation Plans, in the form of the "Long Range Transportation Plans for Greater Vancouver - Transport 2021 Report" and "A Medium Range Transportation Plan for Greater Vancouver". b) Regional Plan Adoption Procedure In July 1991 the G.V.R.D. Board approved a "Discussion Paper on Regional Mandates for Land Use and Transportation Planning". Since then extensive , reviews, with participation of G.V.R.D. Board Members, local councils and Municipal Staff have taken place. In July 1993 the G.V.R.D. Board approved the attached resolution. (See addendum "A") All Councils are requested to forward comments on the resolution by March 31, 1994. Prior to the City of Port Coquitlam formally commenting on the above, the following process is recommended: 1. January 17,1994: Staff from the G.V.R.D.'s Strategic Planning Department will be present to give Council an overall view of the process that brought us to the current point, the proposed procedures for adoption of a Regional Plan and of the contents of the "Livable Region Strategy Proposals" and the "Long Range Transportation Plan for Greater Vancouver". This presentation will be made in open Council and would serve a8 & notice of the January 24, 1994 meeting. January 24,1994: A pubiic meeting, again with attendance of the G.V.B.D.'s Strategic Planning Departments’ staff and the councils from Coquitlam, Port Moody and Port Coquitlam will be held, to provize a comprehensive view of the regional planning process to citizens of the Tri-cities area.
