Alderman Mabbett, speaking to the foregoing subject, referred to the comments made in the report with respect to the burglary at the Safeway Store situated at the “arnet and. Lougheed Highways, and his report to the Council on this matter was then ought forward from its listed position on the agenda fer consideration. Alderman Laking referreé to Item 2 of Alderman Mabbett's report, and advised he had discus- sed with the Inspector the question of why no prior notice of the abandonment of the alarm system had been given to the commercial firms previously connected, and was informed that along with the fact that regulations do not permit alarm systems in their detachment headquarters, they do not have the staff or space to install such a service. Alderman Laking commented that the District of Coquitlam had been informed the service would be discontinued by the R.C.N.P. prior to the detachment being relocated at the new Justice Building. . Alderman Mabbett remarked that the private businesses had spent a considerable amount of money installing these sys- tens, which were discontinued without warning, and the City Administrator sugges— ted they could be connected to the “telemergency" system operated by the B.C. Telephone Company or a system operated by Chub Mosler, which provides 24-hour ser- vice and on-site checks if police are not available. Moved by Alderman Mabbett: econded by Alderman Traboulay: _ That a meeting be arranged between a Committee of Council to be appointed by His Worship the Mayor and the R.C.M.P. Sub-Inspector to discuss the situation con- cerning alarm systems. Carried, Alderman Laking voted against the resolution.
