Increcognition of the cafeteria facilities contained in the School District's three major senior secondary schools, it was felt that both feeding and lodging could likely be accommodated in such facilities, albeit that food catering. services may have to be considered. ‘ Item 11. -° Safety and Communications The meeting. noted that both the RCMP and Port Moody Police auxiliary organizations may have difficulty.in providing 24-hour security service as was the case during the Penticton Games. Radio communications, on the other hand, was not seen as a problem. . . Item 12 Major Competing. Events The meeting took particular note of the fact that Maple Ridge is hosting the Summer Games in 1983 and that the City of Vancouver is hosting a major exposition in 1986. Taken together, the Committee felt that perhaps the Greater Vancouver area was mot the place for a Summer Games in 1986. Item 13 _- Committee Recommendation in light of the present prescription for retrenchment in Provincial Government spending and the additional costs to Municipalities for hosting such Games, the COMMITTEE RECOMMENDS: “That the bid for the 1986 Summer Games not be entertained by District #43 cosmunities."
