"THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM ; 0 UJ N ' | OCT 23 1978 ‘LO: Mayor and Council , October 19th, .1978 FROM: Public Works Committee Report of Public Works Committee Meeting heid October 18th, 1978. . IN ATTENDANCE: Alderman E.W. Mabbett , F.E. Peters ITEM I Re: Closing. of Morgan Avenue at Broadway in Conjunction with Rezoning Application R#9-78 A report from the Planning Officer considered by Council on October 10th, 1978 requested the Public Works Committee to investigate the effects of closing Morgan Avenue to traffic west of Broadway and of cancelling the northerly half of Morgan between Broadway and Ryan. ° The Public Works Committee has no objections to the closing of Morgan and feels that such closure would be desireable as means of separating the industrial traffic from the residential area west of Broadway. , ITEM IT Re: House Numbers on Curbs A letter from Mr. Richard Oak and addressed to the City Clerk had been referred to the Committee for comments. Mr. Oak requests permission to paint house numbers onto the curbs in front of homes in the City as a business venture. The Committee felt that the disadvantages of allowing this type of business would ‘outweigh the advantages to the people of having their homes more easily located. The main disadvantage from the City's point of view would be that, once people were aware that it was allowable to paint numbers on the curb, they might well decide to paint their own. Thus, instead of having uniform numbers all along a street, a wide variety of styles and quality of workmanship might result. The City might also receive complaints from homeowners about other people parking in front of their curb in such a way as to obscure their house number. The Committee therefore recommends that permission be not granted.
