ITEM I

Re: Request from District of Coquitlam for
Water Service to Coughlan Property

We have a request from the District of Coquitlam to
allow them to provide water service to the Coughlan property
which is at the north end of Devon Road in the District. The
District takes their water in this area from a 2-inch diameter
connection to the City system at Lincoln Avenue and St. Thomas
Street At the time that this connection was provided in 1972,
it was “Council's stipulation that it be used to serve only the
existing homes in this area. A’ subsequent application by the
District to extend the 2-inch service to supply water to the
Coughlan property was denied by City Council in 1973.

In reconsidering this request, the Public Works
Committee felt that an extension of this type fer one property
would not affect the service to the City's own customers as
long as the City does not provide a bigger connection and the
District does not increase the size of their pipe above two
inches. There could be a slight decrease in pressure for the
District's existing customers but this would be up to the
District to justify. The Public Works Committee therefore
recommends that permission be granted to the District to
extend their main to the Coughlan property in order to allow
him to build.

Re: Sewer Alarm Panel

At the Council Meeting on July 10th, 1978, Council
considered a report from the Public Works Committee dealing
with an estimated cost of $7,800.00 to install a sewer alarm
system according to a design submitted by Dayton & Knight.

A decision on this item was deferred by Council because it
appeared there was a possibility that we could get a cheaper
system from Honeywell.
