PAR IIS ORE LES OM SUMER TAR YRME Ce ceekt 2 Lie a Jeffrey Clough ae 2530 Patricia Avenue ve i Port Coquitlam, BC March 9, 1992 Good evening! I would like to start out by expressing my i thanks on two points. The first is to thank the Mayor for postponing the scheduled demolition of the Kitchener Street traffie island. ie The second thank you is to all of city Council for allowing i the residents of Patricia and Hastings to express their rena is opinions. That said, those may be the last kind words you will hear j tonight. I do not intend to give you a long lecture on the history of ep ee the traffic problems in this area. In the last 5 years commuter traffic from Lougheed Highway has used the Woodland/Patricila/Hastinga route as a short cut. That short eee cut is both East and Westbound traffic. Local residents on Woodland/Patricia/and Hastings streets have been complaining for years of speeding vehicles and fs excessive traffic. By excessive I mean far in excess of if local residents going to and from their homes. The ‘ residents at the south end of Hastings Stree: have been y complaining for years of traffic backed up to Kitchener pes i Street and further. That is plainly unacceptable. Be Higa There have been four Town Hall meetings in the last 3 years. Other than a four way stop sign at Patricia and Hastings, i little in the way of constructive action has been done. Only when the apartment/townhouse complex on Woodland was brought forward for rezoning did the local residents have an Opportunity to press their concerns over the excessive traffic volume. i As part of the realignment of Kitchener Street, it was as agreed that a barricade of some kind would be installed to | , physically prevent eastbound traffic from going onto ; Woodland Drive. This did not address the problem of i westbound traffic from Lougheeed Highway using Hastings and a Patricia as a shortcut but it was generally agreed that the worst problem was the eastbound traffic beth in volume and the congestion at south end of Hastings Street. Finally at i least a compromise attempt. i | wee /2 rae
