Kirk City Admunistrator Andrew de Boer Project Engineer DATE: — June 241992 SUBJECT: Compost Bin Tender (Environmental Protection Committee Meeting of June 24, 1992) RECOMMENDATION: That subject to receiving a provincial goverment grant, 1500 ‘Garden Gourmet’ compost bins be purchased trom GeoAlpine Environmental Consulting at a cost of $68,952.60. BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS: A tender was issued for the purchase of 1500 composting bins for use in the City backyard compost bin program. Seven qualifying bids were received. The unit prices for 1500 compost bins is outlined below: West Bay Ecotainer GeoAlpine Barclay Belcan Reids Son Shine 42.38 39.50 40.68 42.80 43.00 48.95 49.00 Note: before tax prices yo Duo. LLO Ecotainer, the low bidder, was rejected because there was concems with the Strength of the lid and side vents. The side vents were not sufficiently strengthened to prevent puncturing which could introduce redents into the composter. There were also reports of the lid cracking after extended use. The second to lowest bidder was Geo Alpine consulting at an after tax price of $45.96. For the purchase of 1500 units $68,952.50 would be required from the Environmental Protection Budget.
