Hid GUL AN Gb Gi Gad Gt Pine ecu AM REPORT TO: Mayor and Council March 6th, 1974 FROM: Public Works Committee Re: G.V.R.D. Trunk Sewers i ° This report is to summarize the discussions that your Engineers ‘ have had with the Engineers of the Greater Vancouver Regional District 1 regarding the construction of major sanitary sewerage facilities in 1974. The proposed work has been modified over that shown in the amendments to J the Rawn Report dated April 1970. The modifications are due in part to the change in the schedule so that all of the City's sewage flow will be inter- cepted this year. In addition, some refinements have been made to the engineering design due to land use changes and anticipated growth patterns. This department has carefully reviewed the proposed modifications to ensure they will meet our requirements and assess their affect on the City. ; The basic design of the Rawn Report remains unchanged. Sewage from the north side of the City is intercepted and crosses the C.P.R. raili- way yards near Coast Meridian to the site of the McLean pumping station. South of the C.P.R. tracks sewage from the downtown area flows through the existing system to McLean station and the flow from Mary Hill is picked up on Rodger Street and carried back to the station. A new pumping station will be constructed at the McLean site and will pump the sewage through a force main to the existing Annacis Island trunk main in the Riverview area. Two factors should be resolved before construction is commenced. 1. Sewage from the South Slope of Burke Mountain The G.V.R.D. are proposing to provide sufficient capacity in the north interceptor to serve the south slopes of Burke Mountain in the District of Coquitlam. They have requested we investigate the benefits of this inter- ceptor to the City. Since the area through which the Burke Mountain Sewer will pass will be sewered by developers, there is no cost benefit to the City at this time. We are concerned, however, that the proposed sewer will permit high density development of the south slope of Burke Mountain. One of the problems associated with the development will be over-load of the 7 existing water courses passing through the City during storm periods. We recommend that the District of Coquitlam should resolve the storm water problems before the G.V.R.D. proceeds with the construction of the trunk . ganitary sewer and therefore recommend that the G.V.R.D. be so advised. | - 2. Relocation of the North Interceptor fates Toe SAN net STK Re TR rh Rn Nerd Cae ater tne BI i $ A ¢ a t The G.V.R.D. propose to relocate the north interceptor north of * _Dominion changing the point of intercept. As a result the City will not - i . Jnave to construct a trunk sewer on Coast Meridian from Westminster to the : Lougheed Highway. The new location will require the construction of a 12 inch force main from the lagoons to the point of intercept. The Committee is recommends we consider sharing in the cost of the force main only if the ‘ cost of the relocated main corrected as to size exceeds the cost of the : ~=yworks: proposed under the Rawn Report. on 3 , : : =p2ewees oe
