OF jit Twenty thousand ship- yard workers, members of the Shipyard General Workers Federation (CCL) here joined in extending congratulations to Major- General Crerar and the Canadian armed forces on the first day of the invasion of western Europe. ‘Tele- grams were sent to General Crerar from the SGWF, Vic- toria Labor Council, Van- couver Labor Council and Vancouver and New West- minster Trades and Labor Council. Dock and Shipyard Work- ers sent a cable to General Crerar and at the same time ordered $200 worth of cigar- ettes for the Canadian armed forces. : British Columbia IWA dis- trict council locals cabled their expressions of support to General C€rerar and the Chemainus sublocal was one of the first organizations in this province to greet the in-_ vading Canadian forces, vot- ing to donate a day’s pay to the Red Cross.
