The new White Paper would do away with debate on a work- ers’ claim, making compensation a part of social insurance. The government's statement compares the injured worker to a man wounded in battle, asserting that the nation should assume responsibility for both. : Under the government plan, an incapacitated single man or woman without dependents will receive 35 shillings ($7) for the first 13 weeks, as compared to 24 shillmgs ($4.80) in the CJOR Mondays 6:45 Every — CR VW xX Week Fridays 9:30 p.m. par October 9th— October 13th— JACK GREENALL Provincial Candidate New Westminster MINERVA COOPER “ Now We Must Fight For Them ” LABOR-PROGRESSIVE PARTY BROADCAST WAR FRONT - HOME FRONT PROGRAM Beveridge report. Commenting on the work- mens’ compensation plan, a spokesman for the British Trades Union Congress stated “it transfers the vexed prob- lem from the unsatisfactory sphere of litigation to the basis of a social service. The machin- ery is first-rate and the bene- fit rates represent a substantial improvement over Beveridge’s proposals. The provision of an additional allowance of 20 shil- lings where increased medical attendance is necesSary is very welcome and the proposal to institute an advisory commit- tee where employers, and work- men will be equally represent- ed, with the function of advis- ing Manisters, is very good.’ “The scheme as a whole wall be greeted as bold, intelligent. ¢ Jhanksgiving Day Dance CROATIAN HALL, 600 CAMPBELL AVENUE MONDAY, OCTOBER 9; AT 8 P.M.
