'_ May Day Celebration, | To my personal opinion labor _ time victory and not I must win. 'past two years, and it «can’t be _talked too much because it is _ absolutely necessary. Amalsamate _ With Unity - We Can Win It gives me great pleasure to write a2 greeting for the present and as f have been General Chairman of the May Day Committee for the past two years I know there is a lot cf work attached to it today is more united than ever before, that includes the returned men, the armed services, and the merchant marine. i Wow that peace is here, Unity iS more necessary than ever be- ‘fore, everyone must throw sel& ishness away and make up their minds that WE must win a peace- Erom my own experience, f know that no matter what union er affiliation a man or woman belongs to, as long as he or | she iS a union man or woman, and not just a card member, they are willing to give all his idle - time to work for organized labor. I have talked Unity for the ali the working people in this country and without a doubt we have an overwhelming majority, but for some selfishness and non- cooperation, .we have failed to win a victory in many instances. Therefore I say if we can’t work as one body we must work at jeast on a cooperative basis. Wnity without a doubt is the key to the working people, not only at home but all over the world. Without a doubt that this May Day Celebration is going to be the best and most successful May Day Celebration that Van- couver has ever known. GREETINGS to Pacific Tribune ; from DR. W. J. We are witnessing an awakening of labor that challenges the very. This new strength, solidarity and understanding was gained only through bitter struggle in which milllions went to their death with the cry of “Down with fascism” on their lips and a vision of a better world in their eyes. We cannot easily forget the price of victory. if the imperialists had their way we would quickly be plunged into: another war, this time an atomic War against the Soviet Union, led by the Big 214—United States, Great Britain and Canada. We want no more “blood, sweat and tears.” The only hope for con- tinued peace lies in the unity of the Big 3. Canadian labor must make its influence so strongly felt that our government will be forced to abandon its present at- omic adventures. monopolists, while they drive for war, are at the Same time striving to maintain and increase their exorbitant war profits by attacks on the liv- ing standards of tHe people. The present “controlled inflation” in which the government is acting as the stooge of Big Business, has greatly reduced the real value of] the dollar. Labor’s answer must be a demand for rigid price con- trol and extensive wage increases. Working people in Alberta have to contend with a Social Credit government which while hiding under the cloak of monetary re- form and fighting a sham battle against finance, is capitulating all along the line to the Big Shots. Qn May Day Alberta workers will raise higher -their struggle for the 40-hour week, union security, two weeks’ holidays with pay and a minimum wage of 60c an hour. On May Day Alberta farmers will renew their demands for guaran- teed prices, rural electrification, irrigation projects and provincial responsibility for 50 percent of educational costs. : ; On May Day we do not march alone. We march with our bro- thers and sisters in Moscow, War- Saw, London, and New York We march forward shoulder to shoul- der. ._There will be no retreat. ep & MAY DAY | GREETINGS from ECONOMY STORE 141 East Hastings Pender Auditorium (BOILERMAKERS) MODERN DANCING Every Saturday Bowling Alleys Large and Small Halls for Rentals Phone PA. 9481 MAY rk GREETINGS —from— 45 East Hastings 3 VANCOUVER, B.C. — $ ALWAYS AT THE HOME OF UNION MADE CLOTHING .-. The delegates, representing: a record total of 3500 members, hailed the report as a marked educational advance, tending to equalize schooling opportunities throughout the province, develop a social outlook among the pupils, and strong support is ex- pected for the “automatic mem- bership” proposals. Delegates voted unanimously to make representation to the De- partment of Education “in strong- est terms” for the replacement of the notorious text, Dr. = B: King’s “History of Britain.” This book, which has been inflicted on junior high school students for many years, is considered hopeless- ly unsound from a pedagogical point of view. Parts of it are said to be culled from a text in use in Great Britain a generation azo. In addition, there has been pro- tests for years against the strong reactionary bias of the book. C. J. Oates, of Vantouver, chair man of the Labour Relations Com- mittee, was unanimously chosen to replace retiring President Ber- nard Gillie of Oak Bay. 34 TRANSFER 3 Courteous, Fast, Efficient Call “HA. 6084-L 406 Alexander Street _ GREETINGS this May Day aco. from ct 2 JACK DALE‘S ® Shoe Store 927 Granville St. GREETINGS THIS MAY DAY FROM YE OLDE ENGLISH FISH & CHIPS 44 West Hastings GREETINGS PACIFIC GOLDSMITHS DIAMONDS | WATCHES JEWELLERY SILVERWARE Telephone: Mar. 3553 600 Robson - Wancouver, B.C.
