-2- Purchase of Small Cars for City Staff: I have now received approval from the City of Port Moody and the District of Coquitlam to purchase a small car for the Vector Control Officer. We included our share of this vehicle in our 1972 budget. The mileage presently being travelled by this employee will justify the purchase of a small vehicle and I would recommend that we proceed with this inmediately. We have a tentative agreement with the District of Coquitlam to store the vehicle when it is not in use and service it at their taunicipal yards, , With regard to the purchase of further vehicles for City employees presently on mileage, I find that we can justify the purchase of vehicles for the two appraisers and the new building inspector's position. The parks foreman has been using his own vehicle on a mileage basis, however, a vehicle has been provided for this employee in the current year's budget. There are four other employees tn the City Hall that get ‘random amounts of mileage ranging from $9.00 to $15.00 per month. We can’ probably . eliminate some of this cost by using these vehicles as pool cars. The City Engineer' s. vehicle is available for this purpose to some extent and if vehicles are purchased for the appraisers, these would also be available a certain amount of the time as pool cars. There ig not a great saving to cars for the appraisers and pool car operation (approximately $700.00 to $800.00 a year saved by purchasing two vehicles) and I would propose that we defer these vehicles until. next year in order to give us time to gain experience in the operation of the small vehicles. We may also wish to switch from a sedan to a small pick-up for the Works Superintendent, further experience will verify this need. I would recommend that sre purchase two small vehicles at the present time, _one for the Vector Control Officer und one for the new building inspector. Funds are available in the 1972 budget for both of these vehicles.
