Books about the outdoors

Sumirer is a good time to get involyed in some
outdoor activity, If you're looking for some ideas
of what to do, your public library is the place to
come. We have a large number of books about
sports and the outdoors, and ali of them may be
found in the 790 section of the library. Listed
below is just a small sample of the many titles
that await. you, '

“The Complete Beginner’s Guide to Fishing”
by George X. Sand. If you like fish but fish don’t
like you, maybe you're doing something wrong.
This book telis you everything you need to know
to get started and even if you consider yourself
an expert you may learn something.

“Canoeing and Kayaking” by Wolf Ruck.
There are hundreds of lakes and streams near
Terrace just waiting to be explored. This book
gives a run down of the various types of craft and
how to handle them, whether on lakes, white
water, or long distance tours.

“The Complete Outdoorsman’s Handbook” by
“srome Knap. This book covers a little of
everything: wildlife hazards, axmanship,
campfires and camp cooking, first aid, and
many other useful tips to insure an enjoyable
time next time you go camping.

‘‘Tennis to Win” by Billie Jean King. If you
want some expert advice on how to improve your
game, this book has it. The world famous tennis
shampion covers all the essentials of playing a
winning game.

“Frisbee” by Dr. Stancil E. D. Johnson. If you
‘hought that tossing a flat piece of plastic back
and forth was all there is to the game this book
will reveal the truth to you. It is packed with
illustrations, anecdotes and useful instructions
for a host of unusual throws and catches. You
will be amazed at the possibilities.

“The Art of the Japanese Kite’ by Tal
Streeter. This book is full of fantastic
illustrations of beautiful Japanese kites. Some

nice day you might want to go fly a kite and this —

book will give you some examples of how you can
decorate a home-made model.

Once again, there is some important news
about our children’s programmes!

Northern Detectives Inc. (detective stories,
fingerprints, puzzles, games) for grades one anc
up will be starting Wednesday, July 5. Their
programme will be at 1:30 p.m. and continue for
six weeks, though it isn't necessary tocome to all
meetings to be a certified member of Detectives

“Stories on the Lawn’’ for preschoolers will be
every Friday morning in July and August at
10:00 a.m. No pre-registration is necessary.
