RECOMMENDATION:

That the City establish a policy of requiring specific council approval of memberships in
non-profit societies.

BACKGROUND & COMMENTS:

The City has recently received requests from many societies asking the City to become a
member. In many instances these could be looked at as attempting to avoid our "no grant"
policy as basically the society is not producing any information which is not available

elsewhere.

If the recommendation is passed, a council resolution would be required prior to the City
taking out 4 membership in any society.
