The festival participants who were not from Nanaimo and area were asked if they
were planning to stay overnight and, if so, for how long. Thirty-one percent of
visitors stated that they would be staying overnight. Almost half of these (48%)
were planning on staying for one night, 25% for two nights and 27% for three
nights or more. Of these respondents, the highest percentage (41%) planned on
staying with family and friends while 34% indicated hotels or motels as their choice
of accommodation.

Visitors to Nanaimo indicated that the festival was their principal reason for
coming to the Nanaimo area. Sixty-seven percent of visitors reported that they
would not have come to Nanaimo had the Festival not been held. More than
one-third (37%) of these visitors indicated that they would travel elsewhere after
the Maple Sugar Festival.
