America’s counter- espionage agency, has been acquired by Public TV 9 for presentation during the January Membership drive. Produced by the World in Action team, Granada Television's documentary unit responsible for a whole series of controversial films, The Rise and Fall of the C.LA. has aired on very ' few television stations in the . United States due to its subject matter. The three-part series ‘traces the origin’ and development of the C.LA., from World War II to the 1960’s and beyond, when the C.1.A. emerged as the vastly wealthy and “scarcely restrained arm of the US. Presidency, engaged in covert operations around the globe.” The programs, filmed in the U.S. and Europe, reveal the extent of the C.1.A.’s involyement in subversion of foreign governments from Cuba to Chile and Iran, and include interviews with former agents and with the ‘C.L.A.’s former deputy director. ; Tlblicum The first program, airing Friday, January 14 at 9:10 p.m. and Saturday, January 15 at 2:45 p.m., looks at the C.1A,’s growth and its operations behind the Iron Curtain. Part Two, January 14 at 10 p.m. and January 15 at 3:30 p.m., investigates the C.I.A.’s subversion of foreign governments, while Part Three (January 14 at 10:45 p.m., January 15 at 4:15 p.m.) concludes with a report on the agency’s in-- volvement in foreign wars — including the remarkable secret war in Laos.
