THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY GF PORT COGUITLAM

The Public Works Committee has considered this matter
several times in the past and confirms that the only form of
speed control which is effective is to have periodic police
enforcement of the existing speed limit including the 30 km/h
school speed zone. Accordingly, the Committee recommends that
the R.C.M.P. be requested to patrol this street more frequently,
particularly during times when school children are on the road.

Re: ' Alarm System Costs

The budgeted amount for a new alarm system for the
sanitary sewer pumping stations was $3,000. It appears that
the cost was badly underestimated. We now have an estimate
from the designer, Dayton and Knight Ltd., for a cost of $7,756.

Since the work should definitely be done despite the
higher than budgeted cost, the Committee recommends proceeding
with the installation of the system as recommended by Dayton
and Knight with the work and equipment to be supplied by BCA
Industrial Controls at a cost of $5,356. plus tax for equipment
and an estimate of $2,400. for labour, and that the additional
funds, be provided out of the sewer reserve.

Re: Open Ditches on Warwick Crescent

. A petition to Council about open ditches on Warwick
Crescent had been referred to the Public Works Committee for
report.

It was felt that the ditches were not a more serious
problem here than anywhere else, and that the residents should
be informed of the procedure for lacal improvement of the ditches.
Alderman Mabbett will also be talking to some of the petitioners.
