design of the duplex to be satisfactory for a residential area and pointed
out that right alongside is a large rest home. Alderman Laking observed
that the Zoning By-law permits the developer to build and strata title
without coming to Council; however, perhaps it could be indicated to him
that he can go strata title providing he submits a design that is accept-
able, and he proposed the following motion:

That the Duplex Strata Title application for 1432-34 Barberry Drive
as outlined in a memorandum from the Senior Building Inspector, March 23rd,
1976, be approved;

AND THAT the Developer be encouraged to submit a change in the design

of the proposed duplex to conform with existing homes in that area.
Carried.

Prior to passage of the foregoing resolution, Alderman Thompson
cautioned the Council that becoming involved with home design in the RS~1

(One~Family Residential) zone, may set a precedent,

and advising that the purpose is to have pit fires for firing primitive
pottery. The Fire Prevention Officer, in his report, further advised that
as the instructor has had previous experience in this method and in the

fire safety needed, he could see no problems in granting the request.
