Eng., ity Engineer SUBJECT: Parking at Kilmer School on Knappen Street <= works and Services Committee, March 12th, 1985 RECOMMENDATION: That "No Parking At Any Time" signs be installed six meters on eitner side of the two main entrance gates to Kilmer School off Knappen Street. BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS: A request was received from the R.C.M.P. for control of parking along Knappen Street due to the large number of parents who drop off or wait for children on the street and who screen the visibility of children crossing the road. The Committee is not in favor of a complete elimination o f alang Knappen Street becausa the playground is completely fenced and the danger of children running out onto the road is greatly parking reduced by the fence, lf parents are forced to park across the road, more conflicts with children could occur. However, there are two entrance gates used by many school children and it is deemed appropriate to restrict parkiny on either side of these entrance gates in order to improva the visibility of children crossing the road at tnese points. The Motor Vehicle Act uses a standard 6-meter parking restriction at crosswalks and the same restriction would be appropriate af an antrance gate. FeE. Peters, P. Eng., City Engineer FEP/S gg.
