‘That as requested ina Letter from School District No. 43 (Coquitlam),
May 24th, 1974, the City of Port Coquitlam share in the cost of a study re-
‘garding the feasibility. of a Performing Arts Centre being constructed in the
School District at an estimated cost of $7,500.00, on the basis that the shar~
ing would be 50% by the Board of School Trustees and the other 50% by: each
muaicipal component and the unorganized territory on the basis of population

component. Carried.
Aldermen Ranger and Traboulay voted against the resolution.

Prior ‘to the question being called on the foregoing resolution, Alderman
Ranger stated he felt at was very iaportant that the terms of reference be
laid out, such as where the best location wouid be for such a Centre, and .
Alderman Keryluk commented that the vort Coquitlam Senior. Secondary School
has been in need of this type of faciiity. Alderman Laking advised that the
Centre was propesed for Port Moody; however, following discussions with the
Board, Port Moody indicated it is prepared to accept the best location, not
necessarily in that City. Alderman Traboulay stated he was not in favour of
the study, as there is need for an Arts Centre in Port Coquitlam; however,

Alderman Mabbett pointed out that the other components of the School District

will be contributing to the cost of constructing the new covered swimming

pool in the City. Mayor Campbell Stated he would like to see the motion am-

ended to say “as long as the Study is not a preconceived notion that Port.
Moody is the right place for such a centre"

That the foregoing proposed resolution concerning a feasibility Study
for constructing a Performing Arts Centre in School Distri et No. 43 be tabled

until terms of reference. are laid out, Defeated.
Aldermen Laking, Ranger, and Traboulay voted in favour of the resolution.

That the City Clerk be instructed to write immediately to the School
Board and get clarification on the Status of an application for a theatre

centre at.the Port Coquitlam Senior Secondary School, carried.
