The board of directors had a vacancy so we
went on a search to find a person to fill our
netds. People do not jump out of the
woodwork to volunteer. What we need
help with the most is accounting. We have
a good accountant for our year end, but
need qualified advice on an ongoing basis.
And we need it for free. | am happy to
report that Janet Turpin will be filling in for
Laura Arpiainen unul the election in May.
She is am accounrant and a pottery student
(see the nominanons committee report}.

With our early deacdlines for the newslecter,
che minutes of the board meetings will be
more than a month behind, E.g.January

20th board meeting minutes are approved ar

the February 27th meeting and passed on to
the editor to be published in the April issue.
If you want a copy sooner we can fax or e-
mail one to you, or you are welcome wo
attend the meetings.

We have been spending so much time on
projects lately, leaving little time to think
about overall directions the guild should
rake. Our merabership has grown and the
expectations of members has increased. We
have planned a board retreat in June to
discuss this issue. Ifyou have thoughts on
this, we would appreciate any ideas co bring
to the meeting. The board members have
all been involved in a telephone poll
regarding publishing of the book. Hundreds

of calls have been made and [ have certainly

enjoyed making contact with all the people
on my list, Unfortunately, time won't allow

us to reach you all so please dom't wait for us

to call you. Phone, fax or e-mail us to keep
the dialogue going.

Book Update

Registration:

Since everyone registered for the book is a
member | will cry co use the newsletcer to
keep you informed of the progress of the
book, This will save the $50 postage to
send a separate mailing, We are very near
the maximum of 100 participants. As of
February (9th we have 96, A decision to

go over 100 has mot yet been made so call
today to save pour spor. Lace registrations
must include $100 plus donation pot, your
blurh, copy of your stamp or signarcure,

and a black and white photo of yourself.

[f you register after March Ist, please send
an extra $100 in lieu of a pot.

Denation Pars:

The gallery presentation of “Lottery for
Pottery" opened February 6th and will te
there wncil March st. Send your friends
down to see it and to buy a ticker for the
March 21st event. The pieces are being
rotated since they didn’s all fit at once,
and to accommodate late pots. The first
phota sesson will have taken place by the
time you read this. Mf you indicated chat
you wanted your donation pot to be
photographed for the book it has been
done. Every effort is being made not to
make mistakes, but with so many lave
entries tracking has been a problem.

Black and White Photo:

Deadline for this has been extended to
April 4th. Thanks to those who met the
first deadline.

Full Colour Photo

First session is complete. If you sent in a
photo you should have heard by now if ie
is not suitable. If you are sending a pot to
be photographed in che last session please
have ir ready co send on short notice. The
date has not yet been confirmed, but !
anticipate it to be carly April. Storage is a
problem. Also indicate if you want to sell
this piece in che gallery at the regular 50 -

Blurbs:

We have received all but abour 20 blurks.
All blurbs are due now!! [f yours is one of
the late ones please mail, fax or e-mail it
to the office ASAP, We meed to track it
before passing it on to Deborah Tibbel for
editing. Please don't expect to receive
your first edit of the blurb for several
weeks. Jn will be easier to Gack them if we
send them all out at the same time.

there is a word Limit of 250 words, so |
have some serious cutting to do in a few
cases. [ will make sure that everyone is
given a chance to proof read their bio
before it goes to the printer.

Research and Writing:

Carol Mayer has begun the research for
the history of the book. If you have

interesting bits that are relevant to clay

Art Benefit for Maureen.
Wright

You may net be aware of Maureen
Wright's diagnosis of cervical cancer in
early 1996. Maureen went through
extensive radiation therapy in March and
April. In October, the cancer reappeared
and the medical profession could do no
more.

Maureen is determined to revitalize and
restore her immune system so her body
can fight the cancer on its own. She is
being treated through a naturopathic
physician. The treatments are expensive
and unfortunately are not covered under
the BC Medical Plan.

A benefic sale is being organized for early
April We are requesting submissions of
art by donation, All proceeds from the
sales will go to the Maureen Wright
Cancer Treatment Fund. If you would
like to donate a piece ( or pieces) of your
work for the exhibition and sale please call
