Se LINES - Jeffrey Clough 2530 Patricia Avenue Port Coquitlam, BC March 9, 1992 Good evening! I would like to start out by expressing my thanks on two points. The first is to thank the Mayor for postponing the scheduled demolition of the Kitchener Street traffie island. The second thank you is to all of City Council for allowing the residents of Patricia and Hastings to express their opinions. That said, those may be tra last kind words you will hear tonight. I do not intend to give you a leng lecture on the history of the traffic problems in this area. In the last 5 years commuter traffic from Lougheed Highway has used the Woodland/Patricila/Hastinga route as a short cut. That short cut is both East and Westbound traffic. Local residents on Woodland/Patricia/and Hagtings streets have been complaining for years of speeding vehicles and excessive traffic. By excessive I mean far in excess of local residents going to and from their homes. The residents at the south end of Hastings Street have bean complaining for years of traffic backed up to Kitchener Street anc further. That is plainly unacceptable. There have been four Town Hall meetings in the last 3 years. Other than a four way atop sign at Patricia and Hastings, little in the way of constructive action has been done. Only when the apartment/townhouse complex on Woodland was brought forward for rezoning did.the locai residents have an opportunity to press their concerns over the excessive traffic volume. AS part of the realignment of Kitchener Street, ic was agreed that a barricade of some kind would be installed to physically prevent eastbound traffic from going onto Woodland Drive. This did not address the problem of westbound traffic from Lougheeed Highway using Hastings and Patricia as a shortcut but it was generally agreed that the worst problem was the eastbound traffie beth in volume and the congestion at south end of Hastings Street. Finally at least a compromise attempt. veel iTEM
