V6R 1P2 phone (604) 734-5558 December 13, 1983 Mayor Len Traboulay, City of Port Coquitlam, 2272 McAllister Avenue, Port Coquitlam, B.C. - V3C 2A8. RE: Ventilation for the Port Coquitlam Energy Centre — Dear Mr. Mayor: In Late October I sent you a copy of a memo I had written to Ms. Vivian Vaughn of the Ministry of Energy regarding the proposals for ventilation of the PoCo Energy Centre building. These proposals were to be reviewed upon our completing an air test of the Energy Centre which would allow us to determine. the actual air-tightness of the dwelling. This was done and as we suspected Earl Ramgren did an excellent job of. renovating the house. Our air test indicates that some form of ventilation system should be installed. At present, our two options are either a balanced two-fan intake/exhaust system or an air-to-air heat exchanger system. Each would provide adequate air flow and humidity control with the latter recovering up to 70% of the heat contained in the exhausted air. The cost of the fan system is approxi- mately $600 and the cost for the heat exchanger is approximately $1000. The MEMPR Buildings Engineer, Ms. Vaughn, has estimated that the difference in cost between the two options would be recovered in approximately 5 years, ignoring maintenance costs (see attached). She reminds us that we do not know the life expectancy of the heat exchanger, she presumes a minimum of 10 years, while the fan system should last 20 years. oes /2 fs Nae tot Ralph
