| THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM C ¢ UJ N\ oe MEMORANDUM } eee _ | SEP 25 1978 a 4 . ; TO: MAYOR AND COUNCIL September 15th, 1978 - wr FROM: F.E. Peters, P. Eng., City Engineer Re: Water Pressures on Mary Hill . The following is the report on a comparison of water pressures at the Celeste Recording Station before and after . the installation of the 18-inch South Trunk Watermain. This . report was requested through Council by Alderman Ranger. During periods of normal consumption the addition of the 18-inch main would have no effect on the pressure at Celeste. The normal water supply is via a high pressure main ; _ from the G.V.R.D. main at Trenton. The high pressure is reduced _ , to 85 p.s.i. at the regulator at Belle Fiace and the normal : pressure at Celeste is 75 p.s.i. During periods where the pressure arriving at our pressure reducing station is less than 85 p.s.i., a situation which happened a number of times this summer, the supply is shut down at the regulator and the : whole area is fed from the pump station at Penny Place. It j is during these periods that the 18-inch’ main will have an boo . affect by providing an additional supply to the intake side i of the pump. . | j } 4 Prior to the installation of the 18-inch main, the pressures at the intake side of the pimp station ranged from 85 p.s.i. down to 50 ps.i. At this lower intake pressure, one pump at the Penny Place pump station was not enough to supply the whole demand for Mary Hill and the pressure at the recorder on Celeste would drop as low as 15 p.s.i. On the other hand, there was not enough water available on the intake side of the pump station to allow two pumps to be operated at the same time. Subsequent to the connection of the 18-inch watermain, - it has been possibie to supply enough water to allow.both voumps to operate during periods of high demand. Pressures at the Celeste Crescent recording station during periods of hich derand have not fallen lower than 35 p.s.i. since installation af the new main. Thus it appears that we have gained about 29 >.s.i. In addition, because of the increased supply, more weter has been avaiiable to the industrial area and other residential areas : Ssurrcunding the Mary Hill area.
