Prior to the question being called on the foregoing resolution Mr. Jerry Bleet, Director of Operations, London Drugs Limited, made a presentation to Council in favour of being permitted to operate retail businesses on Sunday and Holidays. Mr. Sandy Seney, owner of World of Dinettes in PoCo Place and President of the PoCo Place Merchants Association, advised there is a problem with the District of Coquitlam permitting Sunday and Holiday Shopping so close to their business. Mr. Bob Eastman of Budget Foods in PoCo Place advised he was in favour of Sunday and Holiday Shopping. Moved by Alderman Gates: Seconded by Alderman Laking: That Bylaw No. 1883 be read a second time. Carried. Alderman Laking introduced a Bylaw to provide for the payment of an ‘B/L #1884 ~ ‘Council indemnity to the Mayor and Aldermen of The Corporation of the City of Indemnity ‘~lst Three Port Coquitlam. Rdygs. Moved by Alderman Mabbett: seconded by Alderman Vater: That Bylaw No. 1884 be read a first time. Moved by Alderman Laking: Seconded by Alderman Muldoon: That the lst two readings of Bylaw No. 1884 be deferred for two weeks. Defeated. Aldermen Muldoon, Laking and Gates voted in favour of the resolution. Alderman Mabbett stated in his opinion the Mayor's Indemnity should be increased an additional 5%. Moved by Alderman Mabbett: Seconded by Alderman Vater: That Bylaw No. 1884 be amended to increase the Mayor's Indemnity from the proposed 15% increase to a 20% increase which would bring the Mayor's Indemnity to $26,400.00.
