Mabbett, August 12th, 1974, referring to his request of several months ago to look at controlling parking in certain downtown areas; specifically, McAllister Avenue West of Shaughnessy Street, commenting that to his knowledge nothing has transpired to date, and requesting that not only the McAllister Avenue West problem be resolved, but at the same time look at day- time control on Whyte Avenue Nest, Marpole Avenue West, and Wilson Avenue West with a recommendation thereon to be brought back to Council in two weks' time. Alderman Mabbett, in speaking to his report, pointed out that there is a problem of commuters and employees of a large office complex taking over parking in the downtown area all day, including those areas where 2? hour park- ing is in effect from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Moved by Alderman Mabbett: Seconded by Alderman Lakinge: That the memorandum from Alderman E.W. Mabbett, August 12th, 1974, con- cerning the parking problem in the downtown area be referred to the Traffic Conmittee for action. Carried, In speaking to the above-noted subject, Alderman Laking advised that he has noted on several occasions that people working in the area have parked their cars right across driveways cf private homes and Alderman Ranger sugges ted that the Public Works and Traffic Comittee bring forth a report on park- ing at the Recreation Centre during ths day and possibly getting the B.C. Hydro to switch its commuter bus stop area over there. Mayor Campbell sta- ted he thought Mr. Vic Parker, Director of Transit, was sympathetic to this suggestion. Alderman Traboulay commented he would like to see the report back in two weeks and suggested that His Worship the Mayor take the matter 28 under advisemenc and endeavour to have it expedited through the Administrator. Alderman Nabbett then requested the Assistant City Engineer to obtain a list of all new street light locations and proposed time of installation for 1974. Alderman Mabbett mentioned that this list was submitted to the B.C. Hydro in April and people in various areas of the City are concerned that the work has not yet been undertaken. The Assistant City Engineer ad- vised he would obtain the information requested by Alderman Mabbett. Alderman Mabbett referred to the matter of adult school patrols and he expressed the view that the City should be hiring a person full-time for the Hastings Street-Lougheed Highway crossing rather than using the City's By- law Enforcement Officer for this service.
