Mayor and Aldermen Septemtger® 2 Alderman E.W. Mabbett OCT 2...4972- 3 ree Over the yéars the Council of the City of Port Coquitlam has tried every “way possible to alleviate the problem of traffic tie-ups at the C.P.R. mainline ‘crossing on the Lougheed Highway. To date we have had little co-operation from the C.P.R. | | The ratepayers of our City and the business firms and travelling public ‘Erom the surrounding municipalities have put up with this problem for years, -at a great expense and inconvenience. | We as a City Council are faced with the problems of traffic, where some of our major street systems are being over-taxed by the many vehicles trying to by-pass this railroad crossing. For example, Pitt River Road, McLean Avenue, and Shaughnessy Street are all being. subjected to extreme traffic flows due to this one problem. We must again try to do something to make the C.P.R. recognize this serious “problem. Better controls, shorter trains or possibly laying charges against “then for violations. The Highways Department has been studying overpasses and “underpasses for several years; to date, nothing has been finalized. L.. this | “new proposed. re-routing of the Lougheed Highway proceeds, we are still some 2 to 3 years away from a solution to this problen. = would like to recommend that we contact the new Highways Minister and also Premier Barrett requesting top priority on this problem.
