A xegular meeting of the Municipal Council of the Corporation of the City of Port Coquitlam was held in the Council Charnbers, Port Coquitlam City Hall, 2580 Shaughnessy Street, Port Coquitlam, BC on Monday, May 16, 1994, at 7:30 p.m. Mayor L.M. Traboulay and Councillors M.D. Gates, M.J. Gordon, J.J. Keryluk, W.W. Stewart, R.H. Talbot and M.A. Thompson were in attendance. Also in attendance were Acting City Administrator J.G.S. Maitland, City Clerk S. Rauh, City Engineer LR. Zahynacz, Director of Community Planning C.R. Felip, Director of Parks and Recreation K.J. Taylor, Director of Building Permits and Inspections J.D. Shardiow, Director of Personnel VY. van Meel, Fire Chief J.L. Baillie, Deputy Fire Chief G.W. Routley, and Fire Prevention Officer T. Clarke. That the minutes of the Public Hearing and Regular Council Meeting of May 9, 1994 and Special Council Meeting of May 11, 1994 be taken as read and adopted. Whereas quality child care is a vital community service that supports a healthy economy and healthy child development, and, Whereas caregivers, parents, federal/provincial/municipal govemments, business, community associations and citizens share a commitment to quality child care that meets the needs of families at a cost they can afford, and; Whereas the shortage of good, safe, affordable child care is the single greatest barrier women face in gettingeducation and training, and finding and keeping jobs to support their families, and; Whereas the Government of British Columbia is acting on a commitment to support quality care programs and services to meet the needs of families across the Province, and; Whereas many individuals, organizations and municipalities from throughout British Columbia have, since 1982, organized events in celebration of Day Care Week and Child Care Month, and; Whereas our Lieutenant Governor, by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, has been directed by Order in Council in that behalf that a Proclamation be issued designating the month of May as "Child Care Month" in British Columbia;
