THE CORPORATION of THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM MEMORANDUM JUN 19 1985 TO Be Kirk, June 6, 1985 City Administrator FROM: FE. Peters., P, ENge, City Engineer SUBJECT: Purchase of new tractor for our Flai | RECOMMENDATION: | That the En written off $10 BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS: _ Several weeks @g9, our tractor used with the flail mower was struck by Two other vehicles invelved jin a Collision at a signal ized intersection and. was severely damaged. We have been negotiating with 16C.B.C. for a replacement and have now received word that they have written the tractor of¢ and are willing to pay $10,800 towards a replacement, | j “] | ! 4 | A replacement is urgently required since this is the season when we need the flail mower the most. We have been renting a replacement while waiting for a report from |.C.8.C., but 1.C.B.C. will only. cover the rental costs until June 7th and after that we are on our own, - The tractor that was written off was a 1978 model which would have been due for replacement out of the Equipment Reserve within the next two or three years, iS unfortunate that we are required to replace j+ ahead of schedule, but the funds advance by |.C.B8.C. wil| be more than sufficient to cover the cost of the two or three year lost use of the tractor. The $20,000 to be taken out of the Reserve wii | not actually affect the Reserve beyond what was budgetted since we Saved $20,000 on the purchase of the Backhoe, - In order to save time, we have called for tenders on a replacement tractor. We would anticipate that a suitable tractor is available locally at short notice and therefore, if Council approves tne above recommendation, we will be able to keep our rental costs to @ minimum.
