The kawsuit —- filed last Wed- nesday in B.C. Supreme Courl — names now-retited obstetrician Dr. Gordon Boyd. and the anesthesiologist, Dr. . Robin Chor. Mills Memorial Hospital is not named in the suit, The suit was filed by mother Maureen George on behalf of her late daughier’s two children, aged two and four. Dr. Boyd retired from medicine last December and this spring moved to the Okanagan after nearly 30 years in Terrace. Dr. Chorn is currently practis- ing at the University of Manitoba. Family lawyer Albert Roos said -the suit alleges the follow-up care George received at Mills Memorial after having her abor- tion was substandard. The statement of claim elleges that Boyd perforated George’s uterus during the Sept. 11, 1991 abortion. - . As 4 resull, it says, George suf- fered excessive bleeding and her condition deteriorated steadily. Boyd ordered “copious volumes’? of blood transfusions bul failed to quickly address the Teason why she was losing blood, it states, A second operation was carried out the night of Sept. 11. Her - condition continued.to deteriorate for three days after the operation until she was transfeired to Van- couver on the 14th. She died that day at St, Paul’s Hospital. The ‘suit alleges ‘that the: two doctors failed to provide George with a reasonable ‘standard of care, and further states that if they had acted reasonably and in good time, she would have survived. Queensway residents lean toward sewerage approval TERRACE — The latest survey of Queensway area voters is en- . couraging for proponents of a $1.9 million ‘community sewer system there. Neatly 60 per cent said they are in favour of the sewer plan as proposed. Fifty-nine people responded to the questionnaire, at an April 27 public meeting. Thirty-three said they are in favour of the system, 14 said they’re against it and another 10 sald they are undecided, Seventy-one per cent of respon- dents indicated they would pay for the sewer system in one Jump | sum payment. Of the 59 respondents, 52 are property owners, and seven are renters, including two trailer park tenanis. Residents at the meeting last week argued not about whether the system was needed but who should pay for it. Several homeowners sald they thought the trailer park owners and tenants were getting a better deal than they were. Sewer committee member Rick Hawke told residents to take ad- vantage of the rare 75 per cent subsidy of the project Victoria agreed to last year. “It’s taken us 10 years to get this funding,’’ he said. “‘If this doesn’t go through it’s gone.” Trip gets O.K.
