By June, 1901; Sidney had a school with an enrolment of 41 and a population under six years of age to 18. Miss A. Currie, sister of Sir Arthur Currie, was the teacher. The trustees at that time were S. Roberts (Secretary), Louis Herber and John Brethour.. In- spector S.B. Netherby who visited the school on. August 15, 1900, reported ‘‘order and discipline excellent; pupils in- dustrious, quiet and. respectful; progress satisfactory."*' By this time the Municipality of North Saanich, including Sidney and the North Saanich area had been formed. That year also. saw Sidney listed as an ‘examination formation «available these ‘students were accommodated in a building on the present site of: the Sidney bus depot. Afterwards it was located in the building, Sheet Metal Works. At the end of 1914 the group numbered 14 and was in charge of Miss M..E. Logan (ater Mrs. Elmer John). In the early 20’s , high school work in Sidney was discontinued, although during that decade the enrolment ran as high as almost 130 pupils. organized in four divisions.. (Compare ’ this with today’s enrolment at North Saanich Jr. Secondary. of 378!)-A teacher who taught in this school for over 20 years was: James Ramsay. - presently occupied by Turner > - back to the Patricia Bay: (for- Enrolment in the Sidney school continued to grow until by 1951 it reached 289 today it is 636.
