Poe |. PAGE SIX THE RE VIEW: Wednesday, June 2, 1971 DEAR IMOGENE I have. a large wart on each hand and cannot get rid of. them. Can you give me any. methods? I’ve. tried. wart’ removers. and ‘home. methods’, but it «doesn’t -seem to help. I have heard that warts are caused by viruses and also by loneliness.: The home remedies, such as ‘rub a bean on the wart, bury it in the backyard and in a few weeks it will be gone’, work. through the power of suggestion: If anyone has: some remedies, I. would. ‘appreciate. them as the warts embarrass and ~ bother me. « DEAR, WORRIES WART I'm sorry you’re suffering from - such stubborn warts. They are odd things; aren't they. I had one as a child that just wouldn’t go - and then it did - almost overnight, if memory. serves me right. A ‘while ago a friend was all set to take her daughter to the doctor _ about hers, then, hey presto - no “warts! My: home. medical dic- tionary’ says they .seem to be caused: by-.a_ virus; however, . there often appears to be some psychological reason’ for. . their “presence. The book stresses that _if.a wart is growing bigger, one ‘should see the doctor, and as . you've tried. various remedies with no. results, perhaps you -- should pop along for medical _ advice. Perhaps though, by the time your appointment comes up, the warts | will have ‘wandered’ away! ” jetwee with Imogene DEAR IMOGENE love your column - and your reply to ‘Dog-Ma’ was very good advice, but, the inevitable but! Personally. I don’t think it a good idea to encourage a child or adult for that’matter, to pat strange dogs when out with the child. I’m an animal lover, had three broken hearts, two doggies and one cat -. when they passed on. One dog, a small-one, loved children and they could do anything with him. One day in the park, a lady told her child to pat him, and.to my. surprise he nipped her fingers. 1 must add I was carrying him, but it shocked me. Maybe I will write you for advice one of these days. DEAR ANIMAL LOVER: Thank you for your nice letter. One shouldn’t make advances to disinterested-looking dogs --or those on a‘leash. On our family walks, however, we find quite a few tail-waggers come up to. us, and it’s often. downright im- possible - to get away withcut a gentle head stroke. First,.though, we always let the animal sniff the back of our ‘hands - this way 1 believe it can tell for sure if we're: friend or..foe., Perhaps’ some ‘Review’ reader can confirm this bit of doggy-lore for us?
