elections on December 11 Central
Saanich electors will be invited to
vote. on. Council’s majority
decision to acquire the former
Brownlee waterfront property on
Brentwood Bay for recreational
use,

On third. reading of the
authorising bylaw at a special
meeting of Council on Monday.
Alderman Don | McLaurin
questioned the wording of. the
bylaw as drafted:

“My understanding is that it is
intended to use money accruing
from normal sales of gravel, and
notin any way. by accelerating
sales,’ said the Alderman... “it
also implies that the whole of the
money for recreational land
purchase. will be found from

‘Beacon’ Owners Retire ‘After 25 Years

One of Sidney’s best-known
restaurants, the Beacon Cafe,
changed ownership last week.

On Monday, November 15, the
new proprietor, Bill Louie, an-
nounced that the name of the long
established and familiar
‘Beacon’ will be changed to the
Silver Dragon.

Eddy and Mary Eng purchased
the Beacon from Joe Montain on
their arrival here in 1946. and
made many improvemerts and
also raised -four’..children . —
Louise, Willie, Victor and Tony —
all of “whom = helped in the
restaurant and attended school in
Sidney, Victor now operates his
own business next door to the

Mary have been active members
of the community.and have
catered. to numerous banquets
and dinners.. sponsored. by
organizations. throughout. the
area.

In saying ‘‘good-bye”’ to the
Beacon Cafe, the former owners
have. no: intention of bidding
farewell to their many friends.
They will continue. to reside in
their lovely .home.. on Second
Street.
