couple of eager scouts. who
usually turn out to help the men,
we are actually making progress
on the new scout hall.. The
basement is well on the way to
completion.

Our’ leaders. are really
something : not only do they cope
with the boys during the week
and take them out of town
swimming and skating, they also
come and work for them at the
seekend. They deserve a lot of
credit.

But what happened last Satur-
day? It seems that only four
eager workers turned up, and no

-men. So no work party. It’s time
the foundations were finished.s0
that the timbers may be returned
to their rightful owner! Please,
won't the rest of you Dads show

up to help. and show a right.

Lacking in youth facilities as
we are, we can with a little effort
on everyone's part havea good
scout - guide hall for their benefit.

Rules Endorsed
By Health Board

The periodic medical examin-
ation of food handlers has been
found unsatisfactory in the past

sense of security. said Senior
Medical Officer J. L.. M. Whit-
bread in a report to Greater
Victoria Metropolitan. Board of
Health at the March meeting.

A strong recomendation for
compulsory health checks for
food handling personnel. was
made in a submission by Charles
Mollard at 4 previous meeting of
Central Saanich council.

Elk Lake Sail
Set For ‘Little

The “little guys"’ of the sailing
world come into their own. this
month when the vear-old Elk
Lake Sailing Association spon-
sors two davs of ‘come one. come
all” sailing.

There will be two separate
‘series of racing for small centre-
board boats at the lake on
Saturday. March 21, and Sunday.
March 22.

The first of three races on
Saturday will start at 1:30 p.m.
and the first of three on the
following day will get under way
at 10 a.m.

There will be two classes: over
13 feet. and under 13.

This is an annual event which,

SOUNDINGS

The coming hope. of Admiral
Budge Sea Cadet Corps is a
colléction of musical instruments
around which a band can be
formed, A lot of time has gone
towards inventing ways of get-
ting this important aspect of the
Cadet training underway.
Parents of Cadets have come
through admirably so far, by:
providing instruments (most. of
them rented} so that the band can

get started. Meanwhile the Corps -

is busy raising funds with a. view
to purchasing: instruments over
the next few months. Right now,

the Cadets, officers, and Navy.

League officials are selling raffle

way of raising money. In April,
the Canadian Fortes Naden Band”
will be playing-in Sanscha’ Hall
in Sidney with the proceeds going

to. the Corps’ Band Fund.

activities of the Corps carry on.

association covers the entire

New office space for Sidney's
department of public works will
be made available in the back
portion of the Tourist Bureau on
First Street.

SPEEDY CHASE
ENDS IN FINES
TOTALLING 5750

A wild chase with siren
screaming and red light
flashing came to an abrupt
end on West Saanich Road
early Sunday morning
when R.C.M.P. caught up
with David Chester Tiffin,
9655 Ardmore Drive.

Driving at speeds up to 95
miles per hour, Tiffin tore
along McTavish Road and
turned onto West Saanich
with the police car in hot
pursuit for four and half
miles. Given a
breathalyzer test at Sidney
headquarters, Tiffin.
