Pearkes are coming to Sidney: on Wed- nesday, April 22, to attend the Save The Children Fund’s Silver Celebration Tea at 2.45 p.m. in the Margaret Vaughan-Birch Hall. The Sidney Group of the SCF is 25 years old, having been started in 1945 when sewing for the war effort was no longer needed. Mrs. J.N. Bray with the support of Mrs. L.H. Nicholson, Mrs. H. Rose, Mrs. F. Baker, Mrs. J. Ruxton, Mrs. H.W. Wilders, Mrs. W.E. Poupore and Mrs. W. Smart, who had been working for the Red Cross, decided to turn their efforts towards children who needed help in the aftermath of war and formed the Sidney Group of the Save The Children Fund. Since that time the group has sponsored i0 children - four English, four. Austrian, one Sicilian and one from. Hong King, resulting i in a total sponsorship of 80 years responsibility. Mrs. Bray and the members have always made a special point of keeping in close personal contact with the children. As well as sending sponsorship money at’ present $80 a year for each child - parcels are sent and a regular correspondence makes lasting friendships. Children who were sponsored in the 1940’s are now married and still write and send photographs of ‘their own children. SUPPORTS CLINIC The Sidney Group also supports the Peter Sphon Clinic in Korea.
