maintained Maurice Michell’s
farm, East Saanich Road, east
of the junction with Veyaness
Road. With a four-star rating,
the fixture has been given the
highest distinction in the pro-
gram listing Festival promo-.
tions covering more than 60
communities throughout the
province.

Polo is perhaps the most”
ancient sport of which records
have been traced. Its origin is
remote, but there is evidence
it was played in Persia’ five
centuries B.C. In India.in the
last Century its prominence in
army circles is proverbial and
the fashionable Clubs. of
Hurlingham. and Raniagh
firmly established the sport as
““a--rich man’s pursuit~ in.
England.

DANGER ELEMENT

Of supreme importance to

polo ponies,, .which after
training show an amazing
apittude: to respond to’ the
-manoeuvers .of their. riders.

Throughout there is the

element of danger inherent in
all sports involving strenuous
efforts and instant decisions
while moving at high speeds.

The game on May 31 will be -

of six chukkers (periods of

play), and afterwards the

awards will be presented by
Mayor. A: M.. Galbraith of
Central Saanich. The Festival
Committee has allocated six
gold and six silver medals to
the occasion, a plaque and 12
- scrolls.
