Sophisticated small-scale tech- nologies, cooperatives and scl!- employment lead to a sustainable economy, Woods explained. An example would be a farm growing organic food, processing it, and selling the products to other retailers and through its own retail outlet. ‘Artists are experts af combining business with pleasure and earning a livelihood at it. They are working models of the small business, people-oriented, producing beautiful, useful prod- ucts in an environmentally friendly way for a long period of time.” Money should be regarded as a useful tool, along with skill, energy and time, Woods said. Woods believes artists already practise many of the ideals of a sustainable economy, as they put their work ahead of making money. “Artists are experts at combin- ing business with pleasure and earning a livelihood at it. Although a pre-disposition report recommended the juvenile write the letter, the judge felt the resulting letter was not sincere. Crown counsel Edward Orm- heim noted the attack occurred while the youth was still on proba- tion for an earlier break-in. The victim was smaller than the attacker and not belligerent, the judge observed. He placed the youth on proba- tion for a year and ordered him to complete any special programs recommended by the probation officer.
