"No blow-oufs in 32-team tourney

Ron’s Disposal won the Divi-
sion A final at the Sidney Slow

_ Pitch League Sidney Days tourna-
ment, which drew 32 teams to
various diamonds over the long
weekend. .

Ron’s Disposal narrowly
defeated Beacon Auto 8-7, scoring
the winning run in the bottom of
the seventh inning at Sanscha
Park.

@: In the Division B tournament
showdown, Hotel Sidney came out
on top with a final round 8-4

> victory over Victoria team Primo
Contractors.

Some 32 teams competed in the
three-day event, which featured
teams from as far away as Van-
couver, Duncan, Parksville, Squa-
mish, as well as from Victoria and
the Peninsula.

Sidney Slow Pitch League
secretary Shannon Noyce said the
toumament was a great success.

“About seven to eight hundred
people were in attendance, many
of them competing, and they all
had a terific time.

“There were no blowouts in the
tournament. Most games were
really close and quite exciting,”

she said.

The Most Vaulable Player
Award among the men went to
Paul Hauser of Ron’s Disposal,
while the female MVP honors
went to Val Graham of Primo
Contractors.

The Most Sportsmanlike Team
award was presented to the Majes-
tic Trojans from Victoria.
