This Saturday, the formation of Sidney Island and the history of the island will be reviewed starting at 7:30 p.m. The wisdom of B.C. Parks’ deci- sion to acquire the island will also be discussed. At 9 p.m. visitors are welcome to join naturalist Dave Fraser on a search for the night animals of the island. On July 28, a nature walk will start at 7:30 p.m. to identify the native uses of plants found on Sidney Island, followed by a 9:30 p.m. slide show on the adaptive abilities of animals. All shows are free, last about an hour and are held at the movie screen at the beach near the wharf. A special late night sailing of the ferry back to the government dock in Sidney follows each show. Sidney Island’s annual Spitnic will be held July 29., Kite-flying, nature walks, beach seine, a trea- sure hunt, sailboarding, diving demonstration and the Kiwanis food concession are all included. There will be an early 9 a.m. ferry sailing from the government dock in Sidney so participants can spend the day on the island.
