Three instructors will take stu- dents through their paces, either in the novice classes or the advanced sailing sessions. The clinics mun from July 30 to Aug. 10 and from Aug. 13 to Aug. 24, head instructor Stephen Payne said. Flying Juniors class dinghies will be used for teaching novices, while Laser 2s will be used for the advanced classes, he said. “We've had quite a problem with registration this year,” Payne said. “The first class filled up quickly but there’s lots of room in the remaining ones.” There will also be a regatta at the club for all students or past students interested in doing some racing, and parents are also encouraged to attend, he said. Playing at home, Peninsula won the crucial first game of the final in thrilling style two days earlier, Walden said. Juan de Fuca took a command- ing 6-1 lead in the first period, but Peninsula came alive in the second to narrow the deficit to 7-4, she added. Walden said Peninsula came out for the final period with all guns blazing as the home team netted seven goals to the visitors’ three goals. The spirited performance in the last 20 minutes of the game by Peninsula was enough to grab an 11-10 victory, she said. “Stuart Andri did an excellent job in goal. Jeremy Lyon also had an excellent game, scoring four goals, while Mike Boyd had a hat-tnck,”’ Walden said. Even though Peninsula lost the three-game series by two games to one, the players made a great effort, outscoring Victoria/Esqui- malt by 26-23 over the three games, team spokesman Anna Kosick said. “Tt was a very close contest that could have gone either way,” she Said. Peninsula won the first game by 12-8 but was narrowly edged out by 8-6 and 8-7 in the following games, she added. Mark Kosick was the home team’s top scorer, with a tally of 17 goals and four assists.
