Business Aggressive expansion includes new building by Mare Davis The Review A Sidney-based business founded four years ago with an investment of $367 will achieve sales of well over $500,000 this year, a partner in the now defunct Aggressive Upholstery Ltd. says. With the recent acquisition of Altech Manufacturing Ltd., Larry Travis and his new partner Glen Davies branched the upholstering business into a new company, Aggressive Industries Inc. — to move into new areas of business. Aggressive Upholstery devel- oped a solid reputation for re- upholstering helicopter interiors and with Travis’ purchase of Altech Manufacturing, for an undisclosed sum, it allows the company to design, as well as manufacture, aircraft interiors, Travis said. The move will also allow the parent company Aggressive Indus- tries to make inroads into the welding business, which would compliment the helicopter interior renovating side of operations, he said. “We'll expand our helicopter and framing industry into the man- ufacturing of crew seats and other Telated products, such as helicop- ter components,” he said. The firm originally started out designing and manufacturing air- craft and marine interiors, plus commmercial awnings, and this area of operations quickly blos- somed, Travis said. A current staff of ten full-time employees will be beefed up by four former workers from Altech Manufacturing, he said. “Now we've got really strong _ potential. Now that we can manu- facture seat frames, we’re even more versatile. That’s our great strength,” he said. Travis’ aggressive and ambitious plans for the company include construction of a 22,000 Square foot facility, to be built on Victoria Airport property. It’s needed because the com- pany’s operations are expanding So quickly, Travis said. “We’ve had to change our name from Aggressive Upholstery and Awning Co. because we’re becom- ing so diversified,” he said. The new property will be located on an eight-and-a-half acres next to Nicholson Manufac- turing on Galaran Road, with con- struction beginning close to Christmas, Travis said. The new premises will not only be a great deal bigger than the current site on McDonald Park Road but it will also have two helicopter pads and a boat ramp, which will facilitate welding work, he said. ‘We'll expand our helicopter and framing industry into the manufacturing of crew sears and other related products, such as helicopter components’ Travis said he expects to take company sales towards the million dollar mark in the next fiscal year, after setting up shop in the new facility in the late spring of 1991.
