Travis Robert Bradshaw pleaded guilty in Sidney provincial court Thursday to charges of assault causing bodily harm, two counts of mischief under $1,000, breach of probation and breach of an undertaking. Defence lawyer Mayland McKimm said Bradshaw hoped to clear the charges by pleading guilty so he could have a fresh start with his family, who recently moved to Courtney. Looking at Bradshaw’s previous record and the list of current charges, Judge Michael Hubbard told Bradshaw that many of his actions were inappropriate. “You've got to start all over again and clean up your act. I’m going to give you a short, sharp shock in Wilkinson Road,” Hub- bard said. He sentenced Bradshaw to 30 days in jail concurrent on each of the five charges. Once the jail sentence is served, Hubbard said he hoped Bradshaw would make a fresh start and not come before the courts again. with a friend, who had done $1600 damage to Bradshaw’s car. McKimm said Bradshaw had intended to kick the other man in the chest but the kick landed on the man’s face when the victim ducked. On March 26 at about 4:45 p.m., Bradshaw and another youth were spotted breaking windows in a car parked on Mt. Newton Crossroad, Giles said. McKimm said the car belonged to Bradshaw’s estranged girl- friend. Some of Bradshaw’s friends damaged the car, blaming the girl for an earlier assault on Bradshaw, McKimm said. Bradshaw was again charged with mischief April 28. Arrested shortly after midnight for being intoxicated, Bradshaw punched a hole in a police station wall, Giles said. Bradshaw also breached his pro- bation order by refusing to take a breathalyzer test. On June 24 police were called to Saanich Peninsula Hospital to quell a disturbance caused by an ‘The drawbacks fo this mega- project are all foo apparent. TheReview had breathalyzer readings of .15 and .14 per cent, Giles said. A probation officer told the court that Bradshaw had worked in the past but claims he cannot work full-time now because of frequent court appearances. McKimm said Bradshaw lost one job because of frequent visits by police to his workplace. Brad- shaw originally left home when he was in grade eight to escape an ill and alcoholic father, McKimm said.
