News a IE LL LLL ALLL A Second housing ‘project backed North Saanich council con- firmed approval in principle Mon- day for an affordable housing development on McDonald Park Road in North Saanich. The proposed development by the Wakefield Manor society would adjoin another affordable housing project proposed in Jan- uary. Mayor Maurice Chazottes said North Saanich’s motion support- ing the earlier project in principle also supported similar develop- ments in the same area. North Saanich’s approval is contingent upon Sidney providing sewer service to the area. Ald. Dee Bailin said she could not support the project since it is impossible for Sidney to provide sewer Service. Sidney’s existing sewer service is already beyond capacity and no further development should be done until the system is upgraded, Bailin said. “To propose more development is ludicrous and being deceitful by setting up expectations that will not realized,” she said. Chazottes said Sidney is consid- ering upgrading the sewer system. Bailin, Ald. Edo Nyland and Ald. Bill Turner opposed support- ing the project. Tumer said the project contra- venes North Saanich’s official community plan. Ald.
