The driver of a grey 1978 Cor- vette that went out of control in the 6500-block West Saanich Road was pronounced dead at Saanich Peninsula Hospital Saturday morning, Central Saanich police said. Tipping fees at dump rise Hartland landfill tipping fees rose on July 1 to cover the costs of initiatives aimed at reducing the flow of waste to the landfill, says the Capital Regional District. The fees increased to $55 per tonne for regular waste material from $45. per tonne. The CRD says 40 per cent of the $55 fee has been budgeted for operating the landfill. Of the remainder, the CRD says 38 per cent goes to recycling and waste Management education, 13 per cent to debt charges, five per cent to composting and four per cent to household hazardous waste collec- tion costs.
