Peninsula Track Club athletes stand out at downtown 8-K race

Members of the Peninsula Track
and Field Club sparkled Sunday in
the Royal Victoria 8-K race.

Club athletes placed at or near
the top im their age classes, said
coach Tom Michell.

Michell was third overall out of
about 1,200 runners, and first in
the men’s 35-39 class. His time
was 24 minutes, 59 seconds.

Sarah Thornber won the

women’s 16-19 class in a personal
best time of 28:35. She was fourth
overall for women.

Chad DePol’s time of 25:46 was
good enough for second place in
the men’s 16-19 group. He was
ninth overall.

Mark Holloway was third in the
boys’ 16 and under class and 61st
overall, finishing in 29:10, while
Scott Travelbea was fifth in the

Rugby Panthers beat Siingers

A win over the Stelly’s Stingers
last week gave the Parkland
Panthers junior boys’ rugby team a
perfect 2-0 record on the season so
far.

_ Parkland won 24-4, although
“Panther coach Lawrence Tarasoff
said “the match was much closer
than the score would indicate as
both sides played with abandon for

the full 60 minutes.”

Matt Cree led Parkland with two
tries. Singles were scored by Jeff
Costin, Geoff Wallace and Jason
Kelley.

Steve Landsberger added two
conversions.

“Stelly’s were extremely
unlucky to score only a single try,”
